Hedge Trimming & Pruning in Perth

We maintain shape, density, and air-flow across formal hedges, screening rows, and feature topiary. Cuttings are removed the same visit.

Swan Gardens Evolution gardener trimming hedges at a Perth property.

A well-trimmed hedge is one of the cheapest, fastest ways to make a property look like it’s being looked after. A neglected hedge does the opposite — it sends the owner-corp’s email volume up overnight. Most of the hedge trimming in Perth we do sits inside a regular maintenance round, where the same crew shapes the same hedges every few weeks and they never get away from the line.

We trim formal hedges, screening rows, feature topiary, and ornamental shrubs across strata, commercial, and residential properties. Cuttings are removed on the same visit — no piles left on the verge, no waiting for a green-waste day. For overgrown hedges that have been let go, we’ll stage the reduction across one or two seasons so the plant comes back rather than dying off in patches.

If your hedges have stopped looking like hedges, this is where to start.

What affects cost

Quoted on the property, not a price list.

Hedge work is quoted on linear metres, height, and species — a soft-foliage hedge like lilly pilly is faster than a dense, woody plant like buxus or photinia. One-off trims sit at a different price point to a hedge that's already part of a maintenance round (where we keep it in shape rather than catching up each visit). Most strata and commercial sites have hedges built into their regular round, with one or two heavier reduction trims a year. We don't quote sight-unseen — we walk the site, count the metres, and price it honestly.

FAQ

Common questions about hedging & pruning.

When's the best time to trim a hedge in Perth?

Most ornamental hedges in Perth take two main trims a year — one in early spring to set the form going into the growing season, and another in autumn to tidy before winter. We schedule lighter shape-up trims in between as part of regular rounds. Flowering hedges are trimmed after they flower so we don't cut off next year's buds.

Can you bring an overgrown hedge back?

Usually yes — most established hedges (lilly pilly, photinia, buxus, port wine magnolia, viburnum) tolerate a hard reduction cut if it's staged across one or two seasons. We'll inspect the plant first and tell you honestly whether to reduce or replace.

Do you take the cuttings away?

Yes — cuttings are removed the same visit. You won't be left with a pile on the verge or in the corner of the property.

Do you trim tall hedges and screening trees?

Yes — we work off pole hedgers and elevated platforms for tall hedges and screening rows. For anything beyond about 4 metres we'll assess access and quote accordingly.

What about feature topiary and shaped shrubs?

We maintain feature topiary and shaped shrubs (buxus balls, spiral cypress, formal cones) as part of regular rounds. These need lighter, more frequent trims to hold their shape — we work them into the visit schedule rather than letting them grow out and starting over.
