Stump Grinding in Perth

Stump removal and grinding — leaving the ground safe, level, and ready to replant or pave over.

Close-up of a stump grinder cutting a tree stump below ground level.

Stumps are the kind of job that sits on the books for a year because it’s “not urgent” — and then becomes a trip hazard, a regrowth point, or the reason a strata manager gets a complaint email. Stump grinding in Perth is straightforward when you’ve got the right machine for the access and the experience to know when to call Dial Before You Dig.

We remove stumps across strata, commercial, and residential properties. Single backyard stumps, hazard stumps across multi-site strata portfolios, feature trees that need to come out without disturbing surrounding plantings — same machine yard, same crew, same paperwork. Chip and debris go with us on the day.

If you’ve got a stump (or a list of stumps) that needs to disappear, this is where to start.

What affects cost

Quoted on the property, not a price list.

Stump grinding is quoted on stump diameter, species (some woods grind faster than others), and access — a stump in the middle of a lawn is a different job to one tucked between a brick wall and a retic line. We don't quote sight-unseen by phone for anything bigger than a residential single — we'd rather drop past or have you send a photo with a ruler against the stump than guess and have to come back to re-quote. For strata managers with a list of stumps across multiple sites, we'll walk all of them, quote them as one job, and schedule a single visit.

FAQ

Common questions about stump grinding.

How deep do you grind the stump?

Standard is 10-15cm below ground level — deep enough to lay turf or pave over without the stump regrowing or surfacing. For replanting, we'll grind deeper (20-30cm) to clear the root crown out of the planting zone.

Will the stump regrow after grinding?

Most species don't — grinding below ground level removes the root crown that produces regrowth. A few species (paperbark, some eucalypts) can shoot from remaining root sections; if regrowth is a concern we'll treat the root crown with herbicide at the same visit.

Do you remove the chip and debris afterwards?

Yes — chip and debris removal is included in the quote. We can also backfill with topsoil or mulch on request, or leave the grind in place if you're going to plant directly into it.

Can you grind stumps in tight access?

Yes — we have narrow-access machines for stumps behind fences, in courtyards, or alongside structures. Send a photo and we'll tell you whether the access works.

Will you avoid the retic and cables?

We Dial Before You Dig for any job near services and ask you to flag retic lines on site. Stump grinders aren't kind to PVC reticulation pipes, so we'd rather pause and re-plan than hit a line.
